Friends of Melsonby
We are privileged to have a thriving and very successful Friends of Melsonby School which exists to encourage liaison and co-operation between home and school, and also to support the school in fund-raising activities.
Money raised by The Friends is used in a variety of ways to buy new equipment or resources to enhance the children's educational experience and the school facilities - the little extras that the school budget could simply not meet.
Funds from The Friends has recently been used to:
- Fund a whole school trip to the Jorvik Centre in York to enhance children’s’ learning about the Vikings
- Organised a fantastic Christmas Fair – December 2018
- Year 6 Leaver’s gifts
- Helped with funding towards a whole school trip to the pantomime
The Friends have several fundraising events throughout the school year including Bags 2 School, Christmas cards designed by your child, but our two main fundraising events are the Duck Race (which involves the whole village) and the Christmas Fair.
But not all of The Friends events are run as fundraisers, each year The Friends fund and organise the Christmas Party for our children with party tea, games, dancing and a very special visitor to deliver a gift for each child. The older children have a disco in the evening.
All parents and members of the school community are encouraged to get involved, even if they only have a small amount of time available we can always find a use for an extra pair of hands. New members are always welcome, details of our meetings are always displayed on our notice board in school and letters go out to every family.
